Ease of use goes miles when trying to get new people involved in things. Getting Ventrilo started client-side is way faster and far cleaner than Teamspeak as far as I can tell and that alone will make people more willing to use it. I'm not trying to be a salesman here but all who have tried it agree that Vent is easily worth the few extra bucks for its user-friendliness and sound quality. It's also easy to set up multiple channels, which would be a huge boon for a server with so many languages spoken on it. That alone won't get people logging on, I realize, but every step counts.
Regardless of the chat program used, one of the greatest reasons so few people are on the TS server is the absence of info actually available in the server itself. It would go a long way to change that shout to contain the log in information so that people don't have to go through the forums. It's not that big of a deal, no, but having it on the forums only leaves it open to the forum frequenters, which is like 10% of AW's playerbase.
