NwN Crash on Startup

Postby Xianio1 » Thu Feb 04, 2010 2:42 am

I've just reinstalled nwn's and whenever I press the Play button on the autorun it goes to a black screen and promptly crashes.

I've tried the TestNewModule override and I've turned off the start up movies. I"m using an ATI Radeon HD 2600 and Windows XP. I'm not using anything like Daemon Tools and I've updated my RealTek. All and all I don't know exactly what's causing the problem.

Little help?

Well I'm still stuck. Here's what happens.

When I load up normal NWN with SoU I can get in just fine. No issues.

When I install HotU after I press play from the desktop the screen changes resolutions, goes black, my cursor changes to the nwn's one and I can move it around until I get an error message saying nwn has to close and it crashes.

I don't make it to any logo's or anything else, just blackness. I've got all my drivers fully updated and I'm trying to figure out where I can find later copies of my ATI Radeon 2600 PRO Drivers to test out if that's the problem but I can't find any online.

Otherwise I'm stuck for ideas. I've already cleaned out everything from the game including all hak and overrides. I've used Add/Remove programs and reinstalled and I've fully patched using the critical override. Same issue.

Currently I'm thinking it's my video card driver. If anyone has any idea where I could find earlier versions of mine I"d appriciate it or any other ideas that would be awesome.

sounds like a driver problem - did you try different settings in the config like lower resolution or compatibility mode ? i had odd graphic problems with nwn when i bought my new video card - also check your 3D settings in WinXP
- a new driver could have overitten the old ones - i discovered that some settings have a bad influence towards the performamnce in nwn (or maybe could crash it) like multisampling->supersampling or tripplebuffer.
else i can only think of a broken HotU installation because your SoU seems to work fine.

Thanks for the advice. I tried the lower capability and I've got my resolution set to 800/600 or whatever the base is. It's unfortunate because I had to replace my motherboard and I can't recall what my old settings were.

I'll see if the 3D settings do anything. Fingers crossed as that would be a very nice simple fix after 4 days of working on it off and on.

Where can I find the 3D settings? I'm having some trouble finding them.

You know, I have vista and after I press play, i need to click on the intermediate screen (the small black one with the NwN logo on it after pressing play) or it has 90 % chance of crashing too.

This might help. Don't know =/
